Changing the Conversation: CEPP’s Erica King Joins C4 Innovations Podcast

Erica King, Senior Manager at CEPP, joined C4 Innovations’ Changing the Conversation podcast to discuss using Motivational Interviewing strategies to support women and nonbinary people in criminal justice systems.

Ms. King talked with host Ali Hall about the need to “elevate partnerships and working with Black, Indigenous, People of Color, justice-impacted women, and nonbinary people to develop better resources to help them navigate the complex journey through the justice system and back home to community well-being, thriving, and freedom.”

With a lack of formal support and resources for justice-involved women and LGBTQ+ people in the criminal legal system, strategies like motivational interviewing can be very beneficial. “When all the policies and practices and programs float away, all we have left is the way we talk with each other, especially in those difficult times. So, showing up with a practice like [Motivational Interviewing] is a trauma-informed practice.”
